So what do they all mean?
Machinery Directive 2006 / 42 /EC
The scope of the machinery directive can be interpreted very widely but essentially is something made of several components which uses energy to move. Most mechanical and electrical items need to be covered under this directive.
Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive 2014 / 30 / EU
The Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Directive 2014/30/EU ensures that electrical and electronic equipment does not generate, or is not affected by, electromagnetic disturbance.
Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive 2011 / 65 / EU
The Directive is aimed at eradicating certain hazardous substances from new electrical and electronic equipment (EEE). Producers of EEE within the scope of the Directive are responsible for ensuring that their products meet the requirements of the Directive. The hazardous substance element of the electric skateboard is the lithium ion battery.
Radio Equipment Directive 2014 / 53 / EU
This covers the element of radio connectivity between the wireless handheld controller and the electric skateboard. Ensuring maximum use distance an avoidance of interference.
Risk Assessments
These are of course important and cover everything from riding to carrying our electric skateboard. These include braking time, construction, design and all manner of things.
CE certification. This is necessary for sale in the European Union but is not a certificate or test in itself but a declaration by a manufacturer. It basically represents a lot of other certificates and tests.
The letters CE are the abbreviation of French phrase “Conformité Européene” which literally means “European Conformity”. The term initially used was “EC Mark” and it was officially replaced by “CE Marking” in the Directive 93/68/EEC in 1993.
CE Marking on a product is a manufacturer’s declaration that the product complies with the essential requirements of the relevant European health, safety and environmental protection legislation, in practice by many of the so-called Product Directives.
Why are all of these requirements so important for us as UK electric skateboard retailers?
Our range of electric skateboards were tested in an independent UK test centre.
Fullfilling all of the requirements not only means that our electric skateboards are certified and safe but gives you, the customer, complete peace of mind. After the issues with hoverboards several companies had last year control on electric good has never been tighter and rightly so. Ask for certification before buying online!
